Ekström's is a Swedish brand under Orkla. They make various fika products, such as sweet vanilla sauce, chocolate pudding mix, waffle mix and sweet rosehip soup. The package they use is a carton tetra package with a screw cork/cap. We chose to work with the product called Kräm (cream). A thick, fruity liquid who most of us in Sweden ate during day care as children, and is also enjoyed by the elderly. Some downsides with the current package: The cream is thick and flows slowly, which means it takes a long time for the cream at the bottom of the package to come out, and it needs to be turned upside down and shaken. This can create frustration and maybe make a mess. It's currently more time efficient to throw away the last drops, than to wait for it to reach the opening. We want customers to eat Ekström's delicious Kräm to the last drop, through a new, smarter package construction which will make snack time (fika) easier. At the same time work for the enviroment, by making sure no food is wasted. Less food waste, more enjoyment! Along with our suggestion for a new construction, we created a new design for the look, to make the consumers pay attention to the updates. For example, there are small indications at the most important new additions to our new package, as well as a label on the front artwork. We also hope our new and fun design will contribute to new recognition to the product and brand. Our solution to the problem of not getting out the last bit of cream at the bottom of the package, is to add folds to sides at the bottom. that can easily be unfolded and then ripped. This will make a clean opening along the entire bottom, and the consumer can easily get everything out. Cleaning the empty package is easier than ever, too! This will make the last portion of the package to come out effortlessly, and it will also be interactive and fun to do. It will encourage families and individuals who eat cream to open, clean, flatten and recycle the package. The new package can be produced using the same amout of materials as is used to create the current package, since the folds already exists today. The folds today are folded in underneath the package and hard to unfold. All we did was put them on the outside and add a piece to rip off! We hope you find our idea interesting and entertaining.
