Steering our sustainable journey
Stora Enso is committed to driving a green transition with the forest at the heart and our renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, and wooden construction. We have set ambitious targets to steer our journey towards regenerative solutions, support biodiversity restoration, address climate change and transition towards a circular bioeconomy, contributing overall to environmental, economic and social progress.
Our ambition and targets
Our ambition is to offer 100% regenerative solutions by 2050, with products that are fully circular, remove more carbon than they emit, and support biodiversity preservation and restoration. This is supported by intermediate targets for 2030.
- Reduce absolute carbon dioxide emissions 50% by 2030 from the 2019 baseline, both in own production (Scope 1 & 2) and within the value chain (Scope 3)
- Achieve 100% technically recyclable products by 2030
- Achieve a net positive impact on biodiversity by 2050, through active biodiversity management in own forests and plantations

-38%
indirect emissions (Scope 3)

CEO message, annual report 2025
"In 2025, we strengthened our commitment to accelerate the transition to a circular bioeconomy by launching a Climate Resilience Plan, which outlines the concrete steps supporting our climate ambitions. As part of this effort, we have also pledged to phasing out coal, reinforcing our continued trajectory towards net zero.
By the end of the year, we achieved a 61% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 38% reduction in Scope 3 emissions compared to 2019. We continue to focus on performance improvements to enable long-term business resilience and the creation of sustained value for our stakeholders."
